The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) marked a significant milestone on April 30, 2025, as LRT Line 2 recorded its highest ridership since the pandemic, with 208,430 passengers on the first day of the Libreng Sakay initiative launched by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

This figure surpasses the previous records of 206,817 set on December 6, 2024, and 202,338 achieved on November 29, 2024.
As a post-pandemic milestone, LRTA recognizes there is further progress needed to reach LRT Line 2’s all-time highest ridership of 281,231, recorded on October 3, 2014.
“We are very pleased with this milestone and aspire to maintain these ridership levels even after the free ride program,” said LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera. “This achievement highlights that the train system continues to be the fastest, safest, and most affordable mode of transportation.”

The Libreng Sakay Program, a four-day free ride initiative of President Marcos, is in line with the celebration of National Labor Day and a gesture to honor Filipino workers. The program has been widely appreciated by the commuting public.Passengers have expressed their gratitude for this timely initiative, which reduces transportation costs while emphasizing the value of the rail system.
