A total of 87,121 passengers availed of free rides on LRT-2 this August as the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) joined efforts to promote the use of the National ID and make government services more accessible to commuters, in solidarity with the signing of Republic Act No. 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act.

The initiative aims to promote the use of the National ID as the primary form of identification for every Filipino while making National ID services more accessible to the public.

The free rides were offered every Wednesday of August—August 5, 12, 19, and 26—from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The highest number of beneficiaries was recorded on August 26, with 27,494 passengers, followed by 24,531 on August 12, 20,845 on August 5, and 14,251 on August 19.

Aside from the free rides, Mobile National ID registration was also made available to commuters. Registration was conducted at Antipolo Station on August 5, 12, 19, and 26, while Recto Station offered registration daily starting August 5 until the end of the month.

To avail of the free ride, passengers were required to present a valid National ID in any accepted format, whether card, paper, or digital.

Through the partnership, the LRTA and PSA continue to bring essential government services closer to the commuting public while promoting the National ID as a primary form of identification.
