A total of 19,981 women passengers availed of the free rides at LRT Line 2 offered by the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on March 8, 2026, in celebration of International Women’s Day.
The free ride forms part of LRTA initiative as part of the International Women’s Day celebration under the theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas,” which highlights the strength, leadership, and contributions of Filipino women in nation building.
LRTA granted the free rides during peak hours from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM across all LRT-2 stations, allowing women commuters to travel free of charge as part of LRTA’s observance of National Women’s Month.
LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera said the initiative recognizes the vital role of women in society and reflects the agency’s continuing support for women empowerment.
“This free ride is our small way of honoring the strength, dedication, and inspiration that women bring to our nation,” Cabrera said.
Through the program, LRTA also aimed to give women commuters a small measure of relief in their daily travel while expressing solidarity with the advocacy for gender equality and women empowerment.
LRTA continues to support programs and initiatives that recognize the contributions of women and promote inclusive public service in the transport sector.
