The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has strengthened its railway safety and security efforts by conducting a three-day Safety and Security Orientation and Seminar for 138 existing and newly hired security guards on February 18 to 20, 2026. Organized by the Safety and Security Division (SSD), the activity aimed to equip security personnel with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain order, ensure passenger safety, and respond effectively to security concerns across LRT2 stations and facilities.

SSD officers Ms. Donna Jane F. Oro, Senior Safety Specialist; Engr. Junbrian S. Froyalde, Senior Safety Specialist; Mr. Agustino I. Alfeche, Safety Officer; Mr. Jaime A. Averilla Jr., Civil Security Officer A; and Mr. Rommel L. Ramos, Civil Security Officer B led the seminar. They provided a comprehensive overview of the LRTA and SSD organizational structure and clarified participants’ roles in operational coordination and reporting protocols. The orientation also covered workplace safety, emergency procedures, and risk awareness to prepare security personnel for potential incidents within station premises.

Security guards were also briefed on their duties and responsibilities as frontline personnel tasked with maintaining order and assisting passengers. The sessions emphasized professionalism, proper conduct, and strict adherence to LRTA policies when dealing with commuters and stakeholders, recognizing the vital role of security personnel in shaping the daily commuting experience.
Specialized lectures on bomb awareness and gun safety were likewise conducted to enhance the preparedness of security personnel in responding to potential threats and ensuring the responsible handling of firearms while on duty. Through this initiative, the LRTA continues to invest in the capability development of its frontline workforce to support safe, reliable, and secure railway operations.
