The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) continues to strengthen the safety and reliability of LRT-2 operations by equipping frontline railway personnel with the skills to respond quickly, communicate effectively, and make sound decisions during both routine and emergency situations. Through continuous capability-building activities, LRTA reinforces its commitment to providing passengers with a safe, dependable, and resilient railway system.
As part of this commitment, LRTA recently conducted a Joint Tabletop Exercise using the LRT-2 Train Simulator, bringing together 106 personnel composed of 79 Train Drivers, 9 Line Dispatchers, and 18 Operations Control Center (OCC) personnel. The exercise focused on strengthening coordination and communication among key operating units while allowing participants to rehearse operational procedures in a realistic and controlled training environment.
The LRT-2 Train Simulator provides users with a driver’s view from the train cab and enables them to operate realistic cab controls, including doors, pneumatics, electrical systems, and signaling equipment. It also allows personnel to train under both normal and degraded operating conditions, including scenarios that cannot safely be replicated during actual railway operations. Through these simulations, train operators develop the knowledge and confidence needed to respond promptly and appropriately to potential incidents on the railway.
During the exercise, participants practiced standard operating procedures, immediate reporting to the OCC, train status confirmation, coordinated operational decision-making, and the delivery of clear passenger announcements. The integrated training further strengthened teamwork among Train Drivers, Line Dispatchers, and OCC personnel, ensuring that every unit can work seamlessly during service disruptions and emergency situations.
By continuously investing in the competence and preparedness of its workforce, LRTA reinforces the safety culture. The Authority remains committed to enhancing the capabilities of its personnel and ensuring that every journey is supported by well-trained professionals dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient public transportation.
