The National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) has officially approved the Light Rail Transit Authority’s (LRTA) request to dispose of valueless records, pursuant to NAP General Circular No. 5 (Guidelines on the Disposal of Valueless Records in Government Agencies) dated October 10, 2023. The approval was issued under Authority No. A-2026-560, covering records identified in the Records Management Analysis (RMA) Report.

NAP emphasized that disposal may only proceed in the presence of representatives from NAP, the Commission on Audit (COA), and LRTA. Until then, the LRTA Records Officer and Custodian are responsible for safeguarding the records. The approved mode of disposal is sale, subject to bidding requirements, unless LRTA opts to engage NAP’s official buyer.

The RMA Report certified that the records have reached their prescribed retention periods and are no longer needed for administrative or judicial purposes. The total volume approved for disposal is 9.47 cubic meters, currently stored at the LRTA Warehouse.

LRTA is expected to finalize arrangements with NAP’s official buyer and prepare the necessary documentation for submission to NAP. Once requirements are met, NAP will oversee the disposal process to ensure compliance with government regulations.

This approval underscores LRTA’s adherence to national standards on records management and disposal, reinforcing accountability, transparency, and proper handling of government records.
