The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has officially launched its Rainwater Harvesting and Conservation Drive, a strategic initiative designed to strengthen environmental stewardship and operational sustainability across its facilities.

In alignment with the mandates of Republic Act No. 11285 (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act), LRTA has installed a rainwater harvesting system along the rear section of the revenue line. This system captures and repurposes rainwater for vital maintenance activities, including:

  • Plant irrigation, ensuring greenery thrives along LRTA pathways
  • Facility cleaning, reducing reliance on potable water for daily upkeep

Complementing these measures, LRTA has also introduced informative signage inside comfort rooms to encourage responsible water usage, embedding sustainability into everyday commuter routines.

The initiative has already produced visible results, with rain-fed plants flourishing along LRTA pathways and heightened water awareness among employees and passengers. These outcomes reflect LRTA’s broader mission to integrate sustainability into public transport operations while contributing meaningfully to national conservation efforts.

This program is more than an operational adjustment—it is a strategic milestone in LRTA’s journey toward sustainable transport. By conserving water and fostering awareness, LRTA demonstrates how public institutions can lead in advancing national sustainability goals.

Through this initiative, LRTA reaffirms its role as a responsible public service institution, committed to delivering efficient transport solutions while safeguarding the environment for future generations.
