The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has trained LRT-2 personnel on the proper use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) to strengthen emergency response and improve safety across LRT Line 2 System.
Conducted by the Safety and Security Division (SSD) in partnership with CLEX E-XTRONICS TRADING INC., supplier of LRTA’s newly acquired SCBA units, the training prepared designated personnel to safely respond to incidents involving smoke, fire, toxic gases, and other hazardous environments.
Participants underwent classroom instruction and hands-on exercises on the proper operation, inspection, maintenance, and use of the equipment. They practiced wearing and removing the SCBA, inspecting its components, monitoring air supply, handling cylinders, and applying standard safety procedures under simulated emergency conditions.

To support faster emergency response, LRTA has acquired 20 SCBA units for deployment across the LRT-2 system. One unit will be assigned to each of the thirteen stations, while the remaining seven (7) units will be placed at the system’s Rectifier Substations, ensuring that respiratory protective equipment is readily available in critical locations.
The training also emphasized that SCBA equipment must only be used by properly trained and authorized personnel and in accordance with established safety procedures and the manufacturer’s recommendations.
The activity is part of LRTA efforts to strengthen fire and emergency preparedness by investing in both modern equipment and the capability of its personnel. By ensuring responders are equipped with the right tools and training, LRTA continues to enhance its ability to protect passengers, employees, and railway facilities during emergencies.
