The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), through its Safety and Security Division (SSD), conducted a Safety Orientation for 50 personnel of Ombeng Hauling Services prior to the commencement of its clearing and hauling activities at the LRT Line 2 Depot.

The activity is in connection with the contract for “One (1) Lot of Unserviceable Maintenance Equipment and Scrap Materials, Including the Clearing and Hauling of Various Domestic Waste at the LRTA Line 2 Depot on a ‘Lot’ and ‘As Is, Where Is’ Basis.”

The safety orientation was facilitated by Safety Officers Donna Jane F. Oro and Jesus Gregorio R. Guerrero, who briefed the contractor’s personnel on the applicable Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) requirements, LRTA safety rules and procedures, emergency protocols, and environmental protection measures that must be observed throughout the clearing and hauling operations.

The orientation highlighted the importance of proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hazard identification and risk assessment, safe handling and movement of scrap materials and unserviceable equipment, proper housekeeping, safe operation of tools and equipment, fire prevention, emergency response procedures, and proper segregation and handling of waste materials.

Following the safety orientation, Ombeng Hauling Services commenced the clearing activities within the designated areas of the LRT-2 Depot. The activities include the clearing, segregation, loading, hauling, and removal of unserviceable maintenance equipment, scrap materials, and various domestic waste.

The clearing activities are being undertaken to promote a safer, cleaner, and more organized working environment within the Depot, while addressing potential hazards associated with accumulated obsolete equipment, scrap materials, and waste.

The activity is also being implemented in compliance with applicable OSH requirements and relevant Commission on Audit (COA) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) rules and regulations, particularly those governing the proper disposal of government properties and responsible waste management.

The conduct of the safety orientation and the continuing monitoring of the contractor’s activities demonstrate LRTA’s commitment to workplace safety, environmental responsibility, and proper stewardship of government properties.

Through these efforts, LRTA continues to ensure that clearing and hauling activities within its facilities are carried out in a safe, orderly, and environmentally responsible manner.
