As part of its continuing commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and efficient railway system, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), through its Safety and Security Division (SSD), successfully conducted a three-day Safety and Security Orientation for existing and newly hired security personnel from June 3 to 5, 2026.

A total of 140 existing and newly hired security personnel participated in the activity. The orientation aimed to equip attendees with the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to maintain order, ensure passenger safety, and effectively respond to security concerns across LRT-2 stations and facilities.

The orientation program was spearheaded by Mr. Jimmy Chua, SSD Manager, as part of the Division’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the capabilities and professionalism of LRTA’s frontline security workforce.

The seminar was facilitated by Ms. Donna Jane F. Oro, Senior Safety Specialist; Engr. Junbrian S. Froyalde, Senior Safety Specialist; Mr. Ronaldo Sabino, Detailed Safety Personnel; Mr. Jaime A. Averilla Jr., Civil Security Officer A; and Mr. Lordyan L. Cheung, Civil Security Officer B. The resource speakers provided comprehensive overview of the LRTA and SSD organizational structure, emphasizing operational coordination, communication channels, and reporting protocols essential to daily security operations.

The orientation also covered workplace safety, emergency preparedness, and risk awareness to ensure that security personnel are ready to respond appropriately to various incidents and emergencies that may arise. Participants were further briefed on their duties and responsibilities as frontline personnel tasked with maintaining peace and order, assisting passengers, and supporting station operations.

Ensuring professionalism, proper conduct, and strict adherence to LRTA policies and procedures when interacting with commuters, employees, and stakeholders was also discussed.

To further strengthen operational readiness, specialized lectures on bomb awareness and gun safety were conducted. These sessions enhanced participants’ understanding of potential security threats, threat recognition, preventive measures, and the responsible handling of firearms while performing security duties.

Mr. Chua commended the participants for their commitment to public service and emphasized the importance of vigilance, discipline, and continuous learning in maintaining a safe and secure environment for passengers and LRTA personnel. He likewise reiterated the Division’s commitment to providing relevant training programs that will further enhance the competence and preparedness of security personnel.
