The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has cleared accumulated obsolete and unserviceable equipment, scrap materials, and other LRTA properties from the LRT Line 2 Depot through a public auction held on July 9, 2026, freeing up depot space and addressing potential workplace safety risks.

The public auction covered properties that had accumulated over years of train operations and maintenance at the Line 2 Depot Stabling Area and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). These included unserviceable maintenance equipment, office furniture and fixtures, obsolete and surplus spare parts, and domestic and solid waste materials.

Among the maintenance equipment included in the disposal were an old defective Locatelli Crane, Loader, Unimog, and Grinding Machine, which had exceeded their useful life and were no longer economical to repair.

The auction attracted 29 prospective bidders who participated in the mandatory pre-bid inspection at the depot. Of these, 16 bidders purchased the required bidding documents, while eight submitted complete bids during the auction.

The auction was overseen by the LRTA Disposal Committee together with its Technical Working Group and Secretariats. Representatives from the Commission on Audit (COA) and the LRTA Internal Audit Department (IAD) also witnessed the opening and evaluation of bids as part of the Authority’s efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in the disposal of government properties.

The removal of the accumulated materials will free up depot space and reduce potential safety and environmental risks in areas where trains are stabled and maintenance activities are carried out.

The initiative also supports the LRTA’s compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) requirements and applicable COA and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) rules on the proper disposal of government properties and waste materials.

The activity forms part of the LRTA’s efforts to strengthen good governance, workplace safety, environmental responsibility, and the proper stewardship of government resources.
