The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), through its Safety and Security Division (SSD), successfully conducted the 2nd Quarter 2026 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on 18 June 2026, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to strengthening emergency preparedness and workplace safety.

The activity was organized by the Safety and Security Division under the supervision of SSD Manager Mr. Jimmy L. Chua, with Chief Safety Officer Mr. Nixon F. Pagcaliwagan serving as Incident Commander and Ms. Donna Jane F. Oro as Team Coordinator. Prior to the simulation, the Command Post and the evacuation area at the flagpole were established to facilitate the orderly participation of 458 LRTA personnel, including members of the Maintenance Transition Team (MTT).

The drill commenced with loud sirens sounded through megaphones, signaling personnel to perform the prescribed earthquake response procedures before proceeding in an orderly manner to the designated evacuation area while wearing the required safety helmets.

Upon reaching the evacuation area, assigned focal persons immediately conducted a headcount and confirmed the attendance of all participating personnel. All participants were successfully evacuated within three (3) minutes.

Following the simulation, Pagcaliwagan emphasized the importance of regular earthquake drills in enhancing employees’ awareness, preparedness, and coordinated response during emergencies. He then formally declared the completion of the exercise and directed employees to return to their respective offices.

The exercise underscores LRTA’s commitment to its Quality, Health and Safety Policy by promoting workplace safety, strengthening emergency preparedness, and continuously improving its processes and services to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient rail transportation for the riding public and its stakeholders.
