In line with its commitment to environmental sustainability and waste reduction initiatives, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has officially approved and adopted the Policy on the prohibition of Single-Use Plastics and Paper Disposables in LRTA Activities.

The policy aims to reduce waste generation, promote eco-friendly practices, and encourage the use of reusable and sustainable alternatives during LRTA meetings, trainings, seminars, workshops, events, orientations, and other official activities.

Under the policy, the procurement, purchase, distribution, and use of single-use plastics and paper disposables-including disposable plates, cups, utensils, straws, and similar items-are prohibited in LRTA activities. Employees, personnel, trainees, and participants are encouraged to bring and use reusable cups, plates and other necessary utensils and items for use during the said activities.

The initiative supports the government’s environmental protection efforts and aligns with the principles of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (Republic Act No. 9003) by promoting waste reduction and sustainable consumption practices within the organization. Through this policy, LRTA reinforces its commitment to creating a greener, cleaner, and more environmentally responsible workplace while fostering a culture of sustainability among its employees and stakeholders.
