The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) recorded its highest LRT Line 2 passenger ridership in nine years after serving 250,578 passengers on August 25, 2026, despite the limited number of train sets available for deployment.

The figure is 145,188 passengers higher than the 105,390 passengers recorded on the same date in 2025, representing a 137.76 percent increase year-on-year.

The August 25, 2026 ridership is also the highest recorded by LRT-2 since October 6, 2017, when the railway served 251,646 passengers.

The record ridership reflects the continued growth in passenger demand for LRT-2. At present, the LRTA deploys eight to nine train sets on some days, as other train sets undergo scheduled repair and maintenance activities.

To manage the sustained increase in passenger volume, the LRTA continues to implement necessary crowd control and passenger management measures at LRT-2 stations, particularly during peak hours, to ensure the safe and orderly movement of passengers.

The LRTA recognizes the need to further increase the capacity of LRT-2 as passenger demand continues to grow. The Authority continues to pursue the necessary government support and funding for the acquisition of additional train sets to augment its existing fleet and accommodate the increasing number of passengers.
