The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has completed the full replacement of emergency and exit passageway lighting across all LRT Line 2 stations. The project covered every platform, concourse, stairway, and emergency exit from Antipolo to Recto Station. With its completion on May 15, 2026, passengers can now rely on clear, well-lit paths to safety in any emergency situations.

The replacement project began in the first quarter of 2025. Personnel from the LRTA Engineering Division worked station by station to replace a total of 325 emergency lights and exit signs with brand-new LED lighting systems. These include wall-mounted emergency lights, illuminated exit signs, rechargeable emergency units, and downlights along emergency passageways.

LRTA chose LED lights for good reason. LED lights shine brighter and turn on instantly, with no warm-up time when every second counts. They last far longer than traditional bulbs and use less electricity, which means dependable performance and savings for the riding public. The rechargeable units also stay lit even during power interruptions, so exit routes remain visible when passengers need them most.

LRTA completed the entire project for ₱682,152. Every peso went toward making each station safer for the riding public.

“We want to make sure that these lights are effective and functional should an emergency occur, in order to properly guide our passengers to safety,” said LRTA Administrator Hernando T. Cabrera. “Every light we installed is a promise to our passengers that their safety always comes first during emergencies.”

The project supports the LRTA Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Manual and its Health and Safety Policy. Both commit to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient rail transport for passengers, employees, and all stakeholders.
