| The Light Rail
Transit Authority (LRTA) tightened security in all stations for both its
Baclaran-Monumento and Recto-Santolan Systems following the surge in its
passenger volume.
The boom in passengers, which
reached a 10 year high of 525, 289 passengers on Friday, has sparked
security concerns prompting security officials to strictly implement the ?no
inspection, no entry? policy in all stations and deploy more policemen both
in uniform and in plainclothes, as well as more sniff dogs.
Passengers are requested not to
take forbidden items inside the stations and on board the trains, including
paint, gasoline, large bags that exceed the 2 ft. x 2 ft. limit, or
fireworks to ensure public safety.
With the onset of the holiday
season, passengers are also requested to open packages, especially
gift-wrapped items and submit them for security checks.
However, in order not to
inconvenience the passengers, security officials are requesting passengers
not to have their gifts wrapped already when taking the train so as not to
damage the wrappers.
The LRTA is also scheduled to
conduct another emergency preparedness drill before the end of the year to
test the readiness of its frontline and security personnel.
