To ensure quick response in case of fire, a new fire substation will be constructed near the LRT Baclaran Terminal Station early next year following the signing yesterday (November 20) of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Light Rail Transit Authority and the Pasay Volunteer?s Fire Brigade.

In the said agreement, LRTA shall allow the fire volunteer group to construct a fire substation at its vacant lot beside the northeast stair and southeast portion of the Baclaran Terminal.

On the other hand, the volunteer group will shoulder all cost of construction as well as secure the necessary permits for the construction and operation of said fire substation.

The volunteer group, composed mainly of Chinese-Filipinos, approached the LRTA and proposed the construction of the said fire substation to protect the lives and property of mostly Chinese and Filipino merchants and residents in the LRT-Baclaran vicinity.

LRTA Administrator Melquiades Robles said the LRTA has recognized the need for said fire substation, especially after the series of fire incidents this year that resulted to around P4,106,402.30 revenue loss due to service disruptions in its operations.

?So far, there were already 6 fire incidents for this year alone, the latest was that of the Baclaran Mall. We hope that with a fire substation nearby, we can ensure a quicker response, thus lesser interruption time in terms of our operation,? Robles said.
