Scrambling
for the best seats for the University Athletic Association of the
Philippines (UAAP) is no longer a problem as the three mass rail transit
systems in Metro Manila are accessible to the game sites.
Light Rail
Transit Authority Administrator Pacifico M. Fajardo has encouraged the
hordes of UAAP fans to take LRT 1 (Yellow Line), the Metrostar of MRT 3
(Blue Line), and LRT 2 (Purple Line), in going either to the Big Dome at
Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City or the Ultra in Pasig City on Thursday,
Saturday and Sunday.
DLSU is the
host university of the crowd-drawing annual collegiate basketball games for
this year.
"If the games
were scheduled at the Big Dome, those coming from the university belt in
Manila could take the LRT 1 that runs throughout Taft Avenue from Monumento
to Baclaran and alight at EDSA station to proceed to the Pasay-Taft station
of the MRT,", Fajardo said.
"They no
longer need to walk the street because there is a pedestrian link between
the two rails," Fajardo added.
All MRT users
will have to do is get off at the Farmers'-Cubao Station that connects to
Farmers' Plaza, several steps away from the Araneta Coliseum.
They can also
take the train at LRT 2 Legarda Station at the back of San Beda College to
the Araneta Center-Cubao Station, a little more than a block away from the
venue.
The
spectators from the eastern side of the metropolis can ride the LRT 2 from
either the Santolan Station along Marcos Highway in Pasig City, Katipunan
Station or Anonas Station in Quezon City, to the Araneta Center-Cubao
Station.
On the other
hand, if the games were held at the Ultra, UAAP game enthusiasts can alight
at the EDSA-Shaw Station of the MRT 3 then take a ride to the venue inside
the Department of Education complex.
Fajardo said
that with the use of the mass rails for the games, UAAP fans would be able
to enjoy more of the games without having to worry about traffic and parking
space.
