LRT Gets Ready for School Opening

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has fielded more trains, maximized train operations and deployed additional security personnel to cope with the influx of students today when majority of schools in Metro Manila open their classes.

“We are fielding more trains including three original trains, consisting of nine Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs), which have been installed with air-conditioning units at LRT Line 1,” LRTA Administrator Teddy Cruz, Jr. said.

He said that the LRT Line 2 or Megatren will also start its full and regular schedule today.  “The Santolan-Cubao line will now be open from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. to provide a hassle-free and comfortable ride to the public,” he said.

He added that four trains will be operated during peak hours with train interval of five minutes.

The preparations are in line with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s instruction to ensure the safety and convenience of the riding public especially now that students back to school.

Cruz said that additional security personnel will also be fielded.  “DOTC Secretary Leandro Mendoza has directed us to deploy more security personnel to maintain security and order in all stations.”

He also warned would be saboteurs not to tamper with the train gadget as they will be dealt with accordingly.  He revealed that some individuals have deliberately activated the emergency lever which caused the trains to stop and delay train operations.

“We assure the public that we are doing our best to give them a safe and convenient ride,” he said.
