The LRT Line 1
operations in Balintawak and Roosevelt stations were temporarily suspended
after a train sideswiped another on Friday morning.
According to
Lawyer Hernando Cabrera, LRTA spokesperson, the incident happened at the
reversing track which is almost a kilometer away from the Roosevelt Station.
A train from
Roosevelt station was at the reversing track when it accidentally hit along
the side, passing another train from the opposite track.
“No one is hurt
as passengers have already alighted at Roosevelt station before the incident
happened,” Cabrera said.
All the trains
on tracks in Line 1 were immediately on hold position at 10:02 am, forcing
them to stop but shortly, resume operations from Monumento – Baclaran
only.
A thorough
investigation will be conducted whether it was human or system error, adding
that “corresponding corrective measures will be applied,” Cabrera stressed.
Around 28,000
passengers are affected daily and an estimated P500,000 loss in revenue is
brought about by service disruption.
