The Light
Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) together with the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3)
conducted a two-day public consultation on the proposed train fare
adjustment last Friday and Saturday at LRT Line 2 in Pasig City.
According to LRTA
Spokesperson Hernando T. Cabrera, a study of the inputs and position papers
from the students and multi-sectoral groups would be taken seriously before
effecting any fare adjustment.
"We
are still pursuing the fare
adjustment," said Lawyer Rafael S. Rodriguez, LRTA Administrator, adding
that the final fare and the date of its implementation will be taken up in
the next meeting of the LRTA Board of Directors.
The
management will transmit reports and recommendations based on what had
transpired during the consultation to the LRTA board, Rodriguez added.
The LRTA told
the public that they can still air their sentiments and other related
concerns on the proposed fare adjustment through LRTA website, emails, SMS
and hotlines.
He said: "The
views of the riding public are essential as they are the major stakeholder
of the LRTA and other government institutions."
The said
event was attended mostly by student organizations and cause-oriented groups
like Bayan Muna, Gabriela, Migrante International, National Council for
Consumer Protection, Riles Network and KMU.
The LRTA
Board approved the provisionary fare of P11.00 boarding fee with an
additional one peso (P1.00) for every succeeding kilometer on January 11,
2011.
