The Light
Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) together with the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3)
is set to hold a series of public consultation on the proposed rail fare
adjustment on Friday and Saturday (February 4 - 5, 2011) at LRT Line 2 in
Pasig City.
"We are
inviting the public to attend the public consultation to express their
position and comments on issues and concerns regarding the said fare
adjustment," LRTA Spokesperson Hernando T. Cabrera announced Thursday.
With the
impending LRT/MRT fare adjustment scheme, Cabrera stressed that the upcoming
consultation will be the avenue for the riding public to raise their
questions and concerns regarding the public transport fare rates.
The LRT and
MRT management, on the other hand, will also be presenting their position on
the matter to lucidly convey the reasons behind the fare adjustment in LRT-
1, LRT -2 and MRT -3.
"It
is for this reason that we will be consulting the frequent riders of LRT and
MRT to look into the benefit that the general public may derive from the
fare adjustment," said Cabrera, adding that the savings to be generated from
not subsidizing the fares would go to other social services and projects of
the government.
He said that
representatives from cause-oriented groups, multi-sectoral groups, student
bodies and various tri-media outfits are expected to attend the public
consultation on Friday and Saturday.
