Caregiver helps deliver a baby at LRT Central Station

Another female passenger gave birth at the platform area of LRT-1 Central Station this afternoon.

A former caregiver in Kuwait helped Ms. Anita M. Paz deliver her baby boy at around 1:05 pm upon alighting at the eastside platform of Central station.

Ms. Paz, 37 years old, resident of Sampaloc Site, Dos Paraaque City boarded the train with a companion, Ms. Iris Balaod, at Edsa Station. They took the 3rd car of the train instead of the Special Boarding Area, a designated coach for pregnant women.

Ms. Paz and Ms. Balaod are about to go to Fabella Hospital but the former's water bag broke while the train was approaching Pedro Gil station. They then asked co-passengers for direction on how to reach Fabella Hospital.

One passenger, who happened to be a former caregiver, namely Amelita Clemenia, sensed the urgency as the two alighted the Central Station. She then approached Ms. Paz and asked her to lie down at the platform area and helped her deliver the baby.

The mother and the baby were safely brought to the Fabella Hospital by Ms. Abigail Batongbakal, LRT nurse and four LRT security personnel.

The baby will be named Jeb.

Last June 7, 2012, a 33-year-old woman gave birth to a baby girl while riding a northbound train of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1.
