The Light Rail Transit
Authority is set to hold the Amazing Rails challenge on July 10, 2010, as
one of its 30th Anniversary highlights.
The Amazing Rails consist
of endurance and speed challenges, which will combine two eco-friendly modes
of transportation – the train and the folding bike – as a mode of moving
through the series of control points in the race.
Around 30 pairs have
already registered to join the race. Each pair will use their folding bikes
and ride the LRT trains like ordinary commuters to get to the race
destinations and will have to accomplish tasks to get clues and instructions
that will lead them to designated control points in the race.
The team that finishes
the race first by going through all the control points and is first to
arrive at the final control point shall win the competition.
The winners will be
awarded the following prizes: First Prize – P30,000.00 plus 2 units of Dahon
Vitesse D7 folding bikes, Second Prize – P20,000.00 plus 2 units Dahon Eco 3
folding bikes, and
Third Prize – P15,000.00
plus 2 units Ecosmo (Dahon-Licensed) Metro folding bikes.
The contest is in
partnership with the Media Planners and Advertising Solutions (MPAS), Junni
Industries, Inc., Eastern Communications, Chef d’ Angelo, Spectrum
Communications, Harbour Square, Gez Purified Water, Victory Central Mall and
the City Government of Manila.
The Amazing Rails aims to
further popularize the Bike on, Bike Off (BO²) Project, which the LRTA
launched in November last year.
The BO² Project
encourages car users to leave their vehicles at home and use the train,
bringing along their foldable bikes, and biking off towards their workplace
and other destinations. These eco-friendly modes of transportation pushes
for the reduction of the traffic congestion and carbon emission, at the same
time change the way car owners and commuters get around places, while
promoting a healthy lifestyle.
