LRTA to sue Victoria de Manila Condo for
service interruption
The Light Rail Transit
Authority (LRTA) announced today (May 28, 2009) its plans to sue
the contractor and building owner(s) of Victoria de Manila
Condominium after a portion of the building’s wire mesh debris
protector fell down the trackside of the LRT Line 1 - Pedro Gil
Station, causing more than two hours of service interruption.

LRT-1 sets 25-year high ridership record
on Black Nazarene Day
The Light Transit Authority (LRTA)
has reached a milestone during last Friday’s Feast Day of the
Black Nazarene celebration, with the highest passenger volume it
has ever in its 25 years of revenue operation.
LRTA Administrator Melquiades
A. Robles said it counted 582, 989 passengers, who took the LRT
trains in their Baclaran-Monumento System (Line 1) on the said
day, beating the old record of 542, 605 passengers set on
December 16, 1996.

LRTA to allow barefoot passengers on Black
Nazarene Day
The Light Rail Transit
Authority (LRTA) management announced today it will relax its
otherwise stringent security policy by allowing barefoot
passengers to board its trains in deference to the customary
celebration of the Feast Day of the Black Nazarene on Friday.
LRTA Administrator Melquiades
Robles said traffic is expected to be heavy on this day so they
are offering their LRT system as a cheap, fast, safe and more
convenient alternative to regular transport.

NACTAG, LRTA hold terror attacks and mass
casualty incident drill
The National Counter-Terrorism
Action Group (NACTAG) and the Light Rail Transit Authority
conducted a terror attack and mass casualty incident simulation
exercise today (December 20, 2008) at the LRT 2 Araneta
Center-Cubao, following the recent bombings in Iligan City.
The drill tested the ability of
area first responders, consisting of around 500 essential
employees of the LRTA and other support personnel as well as
external components, such as the Department of Health, the
Philippine National Police, the Philippine Army and the NACTAG,
to respond to possible terrorist attacks and mass casualty
incidents.

LRTA to cut short operating hours for the
holidays
The Light Rail Transit
Authority announces today it will cut short its operating hours
for both its Baclaran-Monumento (Line 1) and Recto-Santolan
(Line 2) Systems on December 24 and 31 to give way for the much
needed maintenance of its facilities.
The maintenance works will
cover all physical facilities, rolling stocks, carriageways,
signaling system and catenaries.

LRTA to launch rail tourism in the country
Beginning on December 12, the
Light Rail Transit Authority will be launching the first ever
rail tourism in the country through its Metro by Rail Project.
The Metro by Rail Project is a
campaign that will integrate leisure and educational tours using
the LRT Lines 1 and 2, as well as the MRT3, as the main modes of
transportation.
